The Story of the Bible
Mondays, September 15-December 15th, 6-7:30pm
What is this course all about?
Reading the Old Testament can be REALLY confusing! If you've ever started reading in Genesis and quit by Leviticus because it just didn't make sense, don't worry. You're not alone. There are lots of stories, laws, prophecies, and poems to make sense of. Thankfully, the author of the story of the Old Testament arranged them all in order, on purpose, to tell one amazing story of the king who would come in the last days to rule all the nations.
The New Testament is a crazy collection of literature. It has four versions of the story of Jesus’s life and ministry, death, and resurrection. There is a large collection of letters to specific, ancient churches written by a guy (Paul) who wasn’t even an original Apostle. The letters from the three main Apostles in the Gospels (Peter, James, and John) are stuck at the end. The New Testament ends with book of full of wild, apocalyptic imagery. It’s easy to miss the intentional structure and storyline of the New Testament.
After taking this course you will be able to . . .
trace the main story line of the whole Bible.
understand the message and meaning of that story in relationship to your Christian faith.
apply the message of the Old and New Testaments to your real life.
love God more deeply through your reading of the story of the Bible.
